Message from the President
The West Virginia Association for Justice works diligently to protect our 7th Amendment right to trial by jury in civil cases and access to our state and federal civil courts. WVAJ also works to make our civil justice system better by advocating for legislation that improves civil laws while challenging those that restrict equal access to our courts. As a voluntary bar association, WVAJ is provides continuing legal education and other practice resources to trial lawyers practicing throughout West Virginia and in surrounding states.
Our 7th Amendment right to trial by jury in civil cases is one of the most fundamental rights we have as Americans. It allows us to challenge our state or federal government when our other rights are threatened. It also allows us to hold wrongdoers accountable when they harm us physically or financially. Sadly, this fundamental right is under attack. Billion-dollar insurance companies, corporations and other special interests want to increase their profits over your rights and your safety. For decades, WVAJ and its member trial lawyers have stood on the frontlines of this assault in our courtrooms and our capitol--and we will continue to do so.
WVAJ is proud that our trial lawyer members are also business and community leaders. Their firms provide important and needed local jobs. They are active in their local chambers of commerce, churches and civic organizations. They help educate our young people and coach youth sports teams. They serve on local boards, support local charities and work hard as part of local and state service projects. Every day West Virginia trial lawyers are making a real difference in the places where they live and work.
